The Five-Minute Hookah Airflow Test

  1. Test the hose alone. It should pass air without a sharp restriction.
  2. Test the assembled stem and base. Listen for leaks around joints.
  3. Check downstem depth. Begin around 1 to 1.5 inches below the water surface, then tune by feel.
  4. Cover the bowl port. A sealed system should resist your draw.
  5. Add the packed bowl last. If resistance changes sharply, the blockage is in the pack or bowl channel.
